Wedding planning can be daunting. Going to the library or bookstore is equally daunting -- there are sections on wedding planning, not just shelves. What do you do first? Do you pick your venue, plan your budget, find a celebrant, what? What comes first?

Why not consider investing in a preliminary conversation with a wedding planner? I'm not talking about a free consult. That's a look at how you and the planner might work together. You may want one of them later, once you decide whether or not you want to use a planner. But long before you do that, I'm suggesting that find a professional to help you get your tasks lined up, your priorities sorted, and your questions to research all discovered. Here's the deal:


This is how they make their living. You don't have to re-invent the wheel, they've been spinning it for years.
They know what the trends are and what the options are.
They know what works, can figure out what might work and what is a surefire misfire.
They have a network of vendors who work well with them. Most wedding planners have options between top of the line and fabulous up-and-coming vendors (who are usually less expensive).
They know what questions you want to ask of your venue and vendors if you want to try something or someone new.
They all have a pretty good sense of style and will be able to steer you toward bridal clothing that will work for you. (and isn't it working for you that it's all about!)
They know what the timing is. They know when to start the guest list and when to write your wedding vows.

You may not be able to afford to work with a WP, or you may not want to. But whatever you do in the long run, why not find someone to get you jump started into planning the wedding you want. Just remember to put some time in your schedule for dreaming about the marriage you want to have so that you can keep your focus as you work on your wedding. Write your wedding vows early and keep reading them during the planning process.
